About Us

Our Story

We are Mākaha Studios. As a social enterprise on the Waiʻanae Coast of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, we are harnessing the incredible creative talent of our youth and young adults — part of an ongoing effort to improve the education and economy of our community. The above video, "Our Story," presents the context and mission of our company.

The founding of Mākaha Studios was a result of the success of Searider Productions», the acclaimed integrated journalism and multimedia program at Waiʻanae High School». Many of us have roots in SP, went on to college, gained professional work experience, and returned home to practice our craft.

We have several social and community-service goals:

  • Use a portion of annual profits to support Waiʻanae Coast media education programs
  • Offer professional work experience to high-school and college youth through internships and work-study programs
  • Provide meaningful employment opportunities to talented young adults who wish to work in their home community
  • Encourage these same young adults to start their own digital media businesses by providing financial and technical support.

We are a registered Hawaiʻi Limited Liability Company in August 2006, and started working on client projects in December of that year. We are also classified as an Act 221 Qualified High Tech Business by the Hawaiʻi State Department of Taxation.
